What happened to David Cohoe?

David Cohoe served as the original drummer for Saron Gas/Seether until 2002. He was eventually replaced by Josh Freese and Nick Oshiro.

David "Dave" Cohoe was the original drummer and co-founder of the band Saron Gas. During the early years of touring, Shaun Morgan and David Cohoe would take turns driving David's pickup truck, with Dale Stewart and Eugene (Shaun's brother) in the back.

In a chat with Seether Central, David Cohoe remarked,

"Seether was born and bred in my garage. I have piles of footage, original practice tapes.. gold mine"

Shortly after the band moved to the United States (New York), David Cohoe left the band. Nearing the age of 40, David Cohoe became homesick and dealt with major culture shock. David insists,

"I only left after we had all the pre-production done for Disclaimer. Not our choice I might add."

When asked to further elaborate, David said

"Could get me into shit.."

Shaun Morgan has also mentioned David in the Striking A Chord (Ernieball) podcast.

"He was really homesick. He's a decent down-to-earth kind of guy, but he's the kind of guy who if you go to a fancy sushi joint he asks if they've got fried chicken and fries. He's sort of a down-home simpler guy. He thinks fried bologna on bread is a treat, and so do I, but I also think there's other things that are more of a treat. Dale and I at the time were 22 and 23 so we were good. The older guy, the drummer that left, I think all of that was too much for him. He's kind of a home-body guy and his kids are very very very important to him. For me, leaving [South Africa] was the opportunity I needed to create a life for my family."

After David's departure, Disclaimer's drums were completed by Josh Freese, who is now a drummer for Foo Fighters. Nick Oshiro (Static-X) eventually joins the band in 2002 in time for Disclaimer II.

David Cohoe provided Seether Central with a rare Saron Gas clip of "Stay and Play" live from SA Woodstock 2000.

David Cohoe and Seether had a reunion some time during the Poison The Parish world tour (2018-2019).
