Isolate and Medicate Cover Explained

Originally created by Bryan Wickman, the Isolate and Medicate features one of the strangest album covers of Seether's discography.

The cover for Isolate and Medicate was created by ex Seether touring guitarist Bryan Wickman.

In 2015, Shaun commented on a Reddit AMA on what he believed the meaning behind the artwork was.

The Purple Baby:

If we take Shaun's theory into account, the purple baby with its unnatural purple hue could symbolize being deprived of a nurturing upbringing.

In an interview with The Pulse of Radio, Troy explained his departure.

"I had a really good time with those guys, but it came to a point where it just wasn't working out for me personally. I just kind of told her [Amy Lee] that I wasn't in a good place, that I was ready to make a change, and she's like, 'If you want to come do this with us, welcome to it.'".

The Dandelion:

A dandelion-like creature holds this purple baby. The name "dandelion" originates from the French "dent de lion," which translates to "lion's tooth".

Instead of being held by a human parent, the baby is being held by an unsettling, almost unnatural creature.

The Metal Pipe:

To the left is a metal pipe, which also bears resemblance to a "grab bar" seen in showers.

If we see the object as a metal pipe, it could represent the rigid systems of control we live under.

If we see the object as a grab bar, it could represent ideas of vulnerability and instability.

The Coat Hanger:

A coat hanger dangles before the purple baby. Instead of hanging something meaningful, such as clothes (symbol of warmth and identity), the hanger has pills suspended from string. This could symbolize that the solutions we are given are often empty and fail to "dress" the wounds they claim to heal.

The Gun

The faint shadow of a gun could represent a silent looming control that various systems have over us, such as media.
